The Institute for the World Economy directly on the promenade of the Kiellinie
The Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) was founded in 1914 by Bernhard Harms as the "Royal Institute for Maritime Transport and the World Economy". Today, the IfW is an independent foundation under public law of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
The central task of the IfW is economic research and economic policy advice. The current seven research departments and two think tank centres have thematically different focal points, but are strongly networked with each other and work closely together.
