Wildlife park Eekholt

Since its foundation in 1970 by Dr. h.c. Hans-Heinrich Hatlapa (deceased 2009) and his wife Theda Hatlapa, the wildlife park has been continuously developed into a nature experience and education center. The park's mission is to discover the beauty and diversity of nature with children, young people and adults and to sensitize them to the environment in a sustainable way.

In 1999, the state government of Schleswig-Holstein honored the work done by recognizing it as a "Regional Pedagogical Environmental Center": in August 2007, the Eekholt Wildlife Park was then recognized as an "Education Partner for Sustainability" and certified by Ute Erdsiek-Rave, Minister for Education and Women's Affairs, and Dr. Christian v. Boetticher, Minister for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas.
