The promenade leads from the Ostseekai to the naval base in the Wik - directly along the water.

Lined by boathouses, rowing and sailing clubs, traditional sailors, marine research, the state government and, of course, the Düsternbrooker Gehölz, the Kiellinie, at 3,500 meters, is one of Kiel's most popular recreational spots.
The structurally defined area is characterized by prominent buildings and uses, such as the Seeburg as an institution of Kiel University, facilities of sailing clubs and the Kiel Yacht Club, the representative office of the state government of Schleswig-Holstein with a wide variety of government buildings and the seat of parliament, the World Economic Institute, as well as gastronomy uses along the promenade.

Along the Kiellinie, in addition to sailing, almost all of Kiel's water sports clubs can be found, especially rowing and canoeing clubs. On the promenade people jog, skate, cycle and at the same time use the shore for promenading, picnicking and sunbathing.
